Wakeman Boys and Girls Club

LOCATION: Bridgeport, Connecticut
AREA: 44,570 SF
COMPLETION: August 2023

DESCRIPTION
The Wakeman Boys & Girls Club (WBGC) has expanded its reach to youth in the North End of Bridgeport with the construction of a new clubhouse facility located at 595 Madison Avenue. The 44,570 square foot freestanding building is a two-story, pre-engineered steel frame structure with conventional cast-in-place concrete foundations.

FEATURES
This new clubhouse houses a new gymnasium, various community rooms, teen and youth lounges, a technology/STEM center, performing arts space, day-care center, and several other supporting program spaces for WBGC. The second story consists of recreational spaces, locker rooms, educational classroom space, and administrative/support space. Interior finishes consist of vibrant material throughout to stimulate both pleasant working and recreational environments. Fit-outs on the second floor will provide clubhouse participants additional services through its partnership with Southwest Community Health Center and Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders.

Due to the topography of the property, the footprint of the building was carved into the rear of an urban site, located adjacent to Central High School. Even though parking area is limited, almost 50 spaces were accommodated on-site for visitors and staff.
