Killingly Memorial School

LOCATION: Danielson, Connecticut
AREA: 88,950 SF
COMPLETION: In Construction

DESCRIPTION
In 2020, Antinozzi Associates was awarded the contract from the Town of Killingly for an 18,950 SF addition to the existing 70,000 SF facility built in 1953. They also created an analysis to expand the project to include a full update of the existing school’s HVAC systems, ACM abatement per the Town’s AHERA management plan, upgrading kitchen/ serving spaces, and providing barrier free access to all floor levels with an elevator addition. The Antinozzi team expedited this expanded project study to resubmit an application to the State. With consideration by the Town to utilize the school long-term, the DAS OSCGR granted the project “Renovation” status and increased its eligible reimbursement total from $16M to $34M.

FEATURES
The project will be executed over three primary phases. The first phase will include site mobilization/preparation and demolition package. The second phase will include the balance of construction of the new addition and renovation of the existing school. The third and final phase will provide the FF&E and technology requirements for the addition. As students will remain in the school during the construction period, a detailed construction phasing and sequencing plan is in development with the Killingly Public Schools administration and the school project’s Construction Manager. The proposed design completes the previously proposed incremental renovation of the existing school to provide a facility with greater flexibility in the instructional spaces that it will provide for its Grade 2-4 students.
